Philip Ellsworth Conroy II, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away on July 22, 2014. He was born in Newport, New Hampshire on February 1, 1944 to Mildred and Philip Conroy. Phil’s mother passed away when he was a teenager. His father remarried to Helen Tenney, who was an important influence in his life.
Phil graduated from Towle High School in 1962. After high school, he joined the United States Navy and served for six years as a submariner. After leaving the Navy, Phil attended the University of New Hampshire and studied marine zoology. While in college, Phil met and married Laura Twitchell.
Phil had a career in computers for over 20 years. In his early 50s, he became a school bus driver for special education and route supervisor until he retired in 2005.
Phil loved the outdoors and was an avid rock climber in college. Throughout his life, you could often find him hiking up a mountain, camping or playing on the beach.
Phil and Laurie loved to travel and visit their family. For the first three years of their retirement, they discovered new places in their 5th wheeler. In 2008 they landed in Englewood, Florida.
Phil is survived by a loving wife, Laurie Conroy; two children and their spouses, Kathleen and Ted Fenn, James and Annie Conroy; a granddaughter, Delainey Conroy; siblings, Phyllis Coggeshall and John Tenney; as well as a host of wonderful nieces, nephews and friends.
A private service was held for the immediate family in Colorado Spring, CO. Memorial donations can be made in his honor to either Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society or the World Wildlife Fund.
