Morris F. Medina, 82, beloved Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Brother, and Uncle, was called home to be with the Lord on August 10, 2011. Morris was preceded in death by his beautiful wife Mercy, for whom he deeply grieved over the last 6 months since her passing.
Morris was born in San Luis, Colorado, and resided there until joining the Army in 1951. He proudly served as an Airborne Infantryman and spent time at Fort Benning, GA, and Fort Campbell, KY, before serving overseas in the Korean War. He was seriously injured in the war, yet willingly and proudly finished his term of service. Throughout the years, and especially the last decade, Morris suffered from these injuries, but he always had fond memories of his time in the Army.
Upon returning to Colorado, Morris began a 25+ year career as a Barber, first at Camp Hale and then Fort Carson. He greatly enjoyed working with the soldiers and being around the military environment. He was so proud to be a veteran and a strong proponent of other veterans and veteran causes.
Morris was an incredibly generous person and would willingly give you whatever he had. He valued what he could do for others so much more than he valued money or doing something for himself. He had a very strong faith that he actively practiced and always relied on, in bad times and in good. Morris had incredible strength and fortitude that his family and friends greatly respected and that saw him through many difficult times. He had a very clever wit and easily evoked laughter from others. Morris had a knack for telling life stories that always made them interesting and left you longing for more. Often he fondly recounted his adventures in the military and his years with Mercy, but he also loved to talk about history or engage you in a spirited conversation on current events. Morris loved watching westerns and military movies. He also loved cars and all things car-related. He enjoyed going on drives and was known for his enjoyment of the occasional impromptu picnic. He had a way of making the simple things fun. Morris had a peaceful aura and it was enjoyable just being around him.
He is survived by his children Morris Jr. (Mary) Medina, Myrna Massey (John Manns), Myra Hesia (Bill Clark), Mel (Diane) Medina, and Melody Jameson ( Jim Stevens); his grandchildren Robin (James) Dunlop, Allen Hesia, Adam Medina, Amber Massey, and Jordan and Zack Medina; his great-grandson Chase Fleming; siblings and extended family members predominantly in Colorado Springs.
We will sorely miss Morris’ physical presence but will find peace in knowing he is reunited with Mercy and that his strength and giving spirit will live on in us.
