Lynn R. Olney, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on October 2, 2012 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born near Atlantic, Iowa on December 9, 1925, the fourth of six children born to the late Vernon and Neva Olney.
Lynn graduated from Atlantic High School in 1943. After graduation he served in the US Army as a supply clerk and was honorably discharged in February 1946. When WWII was over, he married his high school sweetheart, Georgene, and went to work for his father-in-law at the Atlantic Dairy. In 1955, they settled in Colorado Springs. Lynn worked for Sears Roebuck for several years. He then started his own floor covering business, B&L Carpets and Interiors, Inc., which he greatly enjoyed.
Lynn loved people and was very active in his church and the community. He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, devoted wife, Georgene R. Olney; loving children, Lynn L. Olney (Sharon Olney) and Paul F. Olney (Kerri Olney), both of Colorado Springs, and Kathryn A. (Olney) Schisler (Everett Schisler) of Flanagan, Illinois, and Janet Olney Hon (Brett Hon) of St. Simons Island, Georgia; sister Vera Haynes (Daryl Haynes) of Prescott, Iowa; several precious grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will take place Friday, October 5, 2012 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs. Funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, October 6, 2012 at 9:30 AM at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 5055 El Camino Drive, Colorado Springs. Burial will take place at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs.
