Lyle Dean was born in Casey, Iowa to Earl and Mabelle Rochholz on July 20, 1928. He went to school at Adair-Casey. After joining the Navy, he was stationed in California, Washington D.C., Maryland, Paris France, Norfolk Virginia, and Colorado Springs. Lyle met his wife, Helen, in Washington D.C. They married in Flint, Michigan. Lyle was able to travel to 27 countries. He said, “join the Navy and see the world”.
He was a veteran of the Korean War, Vietnam War, Cuban Missile Crisis and served in the Navy 26 years. He was awarded Navy Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Medal (3 Bronze Stars), Navy Expeditionary Medal, Victory Medal WWII, Navy Occupation Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal (Bronze Star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (2 Bronze Stars), United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Armed Forces Meritorious, and Unit Citation (Gallantry Cross). He owned and operated the Ute Trading Post Jewelry Gift Shop, owned and operated two A&W Restaurants, and he was a courtesy van driver.
Lyle Dean was a longtime bowler and golfer. He loved watching football, golf, baseball, and girls’ basketball. He was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church. He was a member of American Legion and VFW Post 4051.
Lyle Dean is preceded in death by his wife Helen Rochholz, daughter Denise Fernandez, brother Marvin Rochholz, and brother Glenn Rochholz.
Lyle Dean is survived by son Craig Rochholz, daughter Terri Weiant and husband Russ, son Douglas Rochholz, daughter Terri Denise Rochholz, son-in-law Joe Fernandez, sister Hazel Gritton, grandchildren Jason Wright and wife Nicole, Kenneth Wright, Torrin Silengo and wife Brianna, Andy Weiant and wife Kassie, Dylan Hawthorne and wife Maricela, Kristin Weiant, Jacob Hawthorne and wife Bri, Devin Stakley, great grandchildren Kendell Wright, Gabriella Silengo, Ryan Weiant, Arya Hawthorne, Kinzley Weiant, Kairi Hawthorne, Wren Hawthorne, and Bradley Hawthorne.
Visitation will be 4:00-8:00pm Wednesday, December 18th at Memorial Gardens.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Thursday, December 19th at Memorial Gardens. Reception immediately following at Memorial Gardens.
Burial will follow at Pikes Peak Veterans Cemetery at 2:00pm.
