Louis was born on December 20, 1933 to Ben and Pearl Kolm in Albion, Nebraska.
Louis graduated from Albion High School, soon after met and fell in love with his lifelong partner, Rosalie (Nichols) Kolm. They were married September 27, 1952 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Albion, Nebraska. In 1953 they sold the farm and moved to Manitou Springs where they lived for 47 years, finally settling in Colorado Springs.
Louis was a local delivery truck driver. He started his career at REA Express located in the old train station downtown. He later worked for Graves Truck Line and finally retired from ABF Trucking.
Louis loved skiing! He shared this passion with his kids and grandkids. One goal he had was to reach 70 and ski for free, a goal that he reached and shared with his wife. Together they skied every resort in Colorado, some that have come and gone, and a few outside of Colorado. It brought a smile to his face to see video of his Great grandchildren learning how to ski.
Louis was a skilled carpenter. He purchased and remodeled homes in Manitou and on the Westside of Colorado Springs. He would spend his weekends working on various projects. For the things he didn’t know, he would spend his lunchbreak watching workers performing specific tasks and take that knowledge and apply it to his projects. There wasn’t much he didn’t know and was quick to learn from others.
After retirement, Louis and Rosalie traveled the world. Many trips were with his sister JoAnn and husband Wally, and sister Yvonne and husband Jack. They loved all the new experiences, cuisines, and beautiful scenery.
Louis survived by his sons, Kevin (Kathy) and Rick (Katee). Daughters Pam (Rick) Reiter and Patti (Charlie) Hickox. Grandchildren: Ben (Kelley) Reiter, Alex (Aubree) Reiter, Cody (Audrey) Hickox, Dylan Hickox, Scott Kolm, and Justin Kolm. Great Grandchildren: Kaylyn and Irelyn Reiter, Calahan Reiter, McKinley and Leighton Hickox, and James, Dominic, and Brooklynn Kolm. Louis also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews and other family members, both in Colorado Springs and Nebraska.
He will be reunited with those that have gone before him, dancing with his wife of 67 years and will look down on those he has left behind with love.
The celebration of Louis’ life will be Monday, April 17th at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. Viewing will be at 12 Noon, service will follow at 1:00 pm and Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m.
