Letitia grew up in Oklahoma City, attending local schools until she enrolled at Edgewood Park Girls School in Briarcliff Manor, New York. Letitia continued her studies at Finch College in New York City. Remaining in Manhattan, she pursued her interests in art. Prior to marriage, she worked in the home design department of Ladies’ Home Journal. In 1961 Letitia married John “Demi” M. Gates, Jr. She and Demi continued to live in Manhattan, enjoying summers in Southampton, New York and winters in Palm Beach, Florida. Her husband’s career in finance and banking allowed them to live overseas in such places as Paris and Hong Kong. Letitia was an accomplished artist and muralist, accepting commissions for murals in New York and Florida. She moved to Colorado Springs in 2005 following the death of Demi.
She is survived by: brother, Thomas N. Ambrose (Thora) of Ocean Ridge, Florida, sister, Camilla Gresham of Colorado Springs, nephews, Serge Ambrose of Riverside, Illinois and Spencer A. Gresham of Colorado Springs, and niece, Natalie Ambrose of Washington, D.C.
Services are not planned at this time and burial will be in Nunda, New York, next to her husband.
