LCPL Colten Robert Hines, age 23, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. Colten was born June 7, 1998. A Colorado Springs Native, Colten graduated from Falcon High School, while also graduating with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Emergency Medical Technician from Pikes Peak Community College. He was a Certified EMT, and volunteered with AMR. In 2017, Colten fulfilled his childhood goal of joining the United States Marine Corps. He served as an infantryman in Twenty-Nine Palms, California. During his enlistment, Colten received the National Defense Service Metal, Global War on Terrorism Metal, and was twice qualified as a rifle expert.
An avid adventurer, Colten enjoyed Fishing, Stargazing, and Moonwatching all around Colorado. A music enthusiast, Colten was self taught on the Guitar and enjoyed playing hard rock. He will be remembered for making people laugh, being great with children, and his passion for helping others.
Colten is survived by his mom Lisa Cheney and his dad Richard Cheney; his brother Dalton Hines, his brother Wesley Hines, his sister Kaylee Cheney, his sister Arianna Cheney and his sister Ellisabeth Cheney; his babcia Teresa Kwak, his great grandmother Nanny Barbara Smith, his grandmother Carolyn Smith, his papaw Walt Hines, his grandfather Richard Cheney, his grandmother Deb Cheney, his nana Veronica Yakos and his papa Mike Yakos.
Colten was preceded in death by his grandfather Leon S. Kwak and his father Shane Hines.
A visitation for Colten will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mountain View Mortuary, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80918. A committal service will occur Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, 10545 Drennan Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80925.
Serving as pallbearers are Richard Cheney, Wesley Hines, PFC Jacob Hull, LCPL Elijah Zimmerman and Kyal Lanum.
