James Sanborn Snodgrass passed away Sunday, April 26, 2015. He was born June 26, 1920 in Macon County, Missouri to Jimmie G. and Susie Esther(Halley) Snodgrass; he was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ann, and his sister Marjorie March.
James was a 1938 graduate of Macon High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, Dec. 3, 1941 and was discharged Dec. 16, 1945. As a staff sergeant, he served at Camp Barkley, TX and the ETO. He then returned to Macon, Mo. where he farmed and worked for the Macon Creamery Co. as a butter maker.
James married Ann K. Vinardi of Hepler, Ks on Sept. 27, 1944 in Abilene, TX. Ann passed away suddenly on Jan. 25, 1978.
In Oct. 1948 he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force as a S/Sgt and retired Oct. 31, 1964 as a M/Sgt. During this period he served at Nellis A.F.B., Las Vegas, NV.; Hdqtrs 5th Air Force, Korea; Hdgtrs Air Defense Command, Colorado Springs, Co; Rhien Mein Air Base, Frankfurt, Germany; Peterson AFB, Colorado Springs, Co. and Hdqtrs Air Defense Command where he retired from.
James was a proud veteran of World War II, the Korean War and retired during the Vietnam War.
In June 1965 he was hired by the Colorado Springs Post Office as a level 4 Temporary Clerk and retired after 171/2 years on Dec 31, 1981 as a level 18 Tour Superintendent.
After retiring he later moved to Pocahontas, Illinois where he lived for 16 years before returning to Colorado. While living in Illinois he served on the Town Board for 8 years and was very active in his church. He took up woodworking and gardening during this time and became quite proficient!
Mr. Snodgrass is survived by his sons James L. (Catherine), Gerald M. (Deborah), Gregory P. (Margaret), and his daughters Elizabeth A. Lopez (Aurelio), Susan M. Kramer (John), and Cheryl L. Winn (Robert), nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren, his brothers John and Howard Snodgrass and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 5354 S. Hwy 85-87, Security, Colorado, Monday -May 4th, 5PM to 7PM, Rosary at 6PM. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 5th, 10AM, St. Dominic Catholic Church, Security, Colorado and burial at Evergreen Cemetery, Colorado Springs, with Monsignor Donald Dunn and Father Bill Carmody officiating.
