Artie was born on September 26, 1947 in Colorado City, TX to Coit and Lela Butler. He was the youngest of 8 children and grew up on the Butler farm in Westbrook, TX. Artie graduated from Colorado City High School in 1966.
After high school, he attended Southwest Texas State graduating with an accounting degree. Artie married his high school sweetheart, Lucille, on August 29, 1970. They began their life in Midland, TX, adding their son, Brian with Artie beginning his career in accounting. He then proceeded to pursue a career in public school administration and received his masters degree from Abilene Christian University. Artie worked and enjoyed many school districts around Texas until he retired and moved to Colorado in 2015.
Artie had a pure love for the outdoors. He loved landscaping and keeping a beautiful yard, spending many hours keeping things in the perfect condition. Artie loved sitting outside enjoying his beautiful flowers and yard. Artie’s true outdoor passions came in the form of hunting, fishing, camping, and snow skiing. There is nothing he would rather be doing than fishing and hunting with friends and family. He spent many summers in the mountains camping and trout fishing in Colorado’s rivers, and enjoying the slopes in winter snow skiing.
Artie is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years Lucille Butler; son, Brian Butler (Maryanne) of Castle Pines, CO; loved grandchildren, Carley, Caitlyn, and Hayden Butler; two sisters: Linda Majors Newton, San Antonio, TX; Brenda Jackson (Lynn), San Angelo, TX; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A Celebration of life will be held on July 19, 2024 at 10:00 am at Vista Grande Baptist Church, 5680 Stetson Hills Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO 80917. There will be a reception following. Graveside services will be held at a later time in Colorado City, TX.
