Lewis F. “Frank” Thornton, 89, passed away in Colorado Springs, Colorado on September 4, 2011. He was born April 1, 1922 in Baca County, Colorado to Walter S. and Minnie L. Thornton, who preceded him in death. He grew up on a farm homesteaded by his parents West of Campo, Colorado. His three brothers and two sisters also preceded him in death.
Frank was a longtime Colorado Springs resident. He retired from Hewlett Packard in 1986. He enjoyed wood working, model trains and landscaping. He was an inventor and had a wonderful ability to build” anything out of anything.” He was a kind, quiet and gentle person who was always smiling.
Survivors include Frank’s beloved wife, Ann Thornton; daughter, Teresa (Billy) Farrow of Colorado Springs; granddaughter, Holly Mitchell of Albuquerque, NM; grandson, Cole Janne of Colorado Springs, CO; sister-in-law, Odelee Thornton of Cedaredge, CO and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of Life Care Center and Evercare Hospice for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association in Frank’s honor.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 12, 2011 at 10:00 a.m., Wilson United Methodist Church, 6460 Flying W Ranch Road, Colorado Springs. Burial is immediately following at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock Avenue, Colorado Springs.
