Donya Lee Hughes, born to William and Laura Menzies and raised in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, including Dillon and Georgetown, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024. She graduated from Idaho Springs High School in 1963 and completed Beauty School in 1964, embarking on a lifelong career as a talented beautician.
Donya was a proud military wife, traveling across the United States with her family. She maintained her professional license in every state she lived in, building a remarkable career spanning over 50 years. Her work brought her not only clients but also lifelong friendships. Generations of families entrusted Donya with their hair care, a testament to her skill, warmth, and enduring relationships.
She is survived by her sisters Billie Pyzel (Dan) and Margaret House, her brother Robert Menzies, her former husband Sam Hughes, and her beloved daughter Suzanne Riggle (Craig). Her cherished granddaughters, Leilani Asuncion and Kristina Smith, and great-granddaughters, Maisy and Adalynn Powell, brought immense joy to her life. Donya is also remembered fondly by her bonus children Charles Hughes (Linda) and Krystal Ashton, along with their children and grandchildren. She leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who adored her.
Donya’s heart of gold, nurturing spirit, and zest for life touched everyone she met. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel like family, collecting "children" and "grandchildren" wherever she went. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in the countless lives she impacted.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 3:00 PM at Swan Law Funeral Home, located at 501 North Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Guests are encouraged to wear bright colors or something adorned with butterflies to honor Donya’s vibrant spirit.

Donya will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her laughter, love, and boundless generosity will remain in our hearts forever.
