Del was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 21, 1942 to Del (Sr.) and Josephine Hedges. He was the first of nine children. He graduated from Center High School in Kansas City, Missouri. Del attended college at St. Mary’s of the Plains in Dodge City, Kansas where he had the opportunity to play football.
Del started and owned a successful small business “Executive Sportswear” in the Colorado Springs area which he later sold and then he went on to enjoy a successful retirement.
Family and friends were extremely important in his life; he valued any opportunity to spend time with his family and especially Christmas in Kansas City. He also enjoyed traveling both domestic and international. One of his favorite destinations was Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Del was passionate about being able to give back his time and donations to the children in Puerto Vallarta area. He always would take suitcases full of shoes, which he would donate to them.
He was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church in Colorado Springs.
Del is survived by his two sons Tony (Tricia) Hedges and Mike (Sherri) Hedges; grandchildren Anthony, Cheri, Josh, Michael, Matthew and Macey Hedges; siblings Paulette Hedges of Las Vegas, Nevada, Bernadette (Charlie) Williams of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Clarine (David) Blakeley of Dayton, Ohio, Marybeth(Wes) Traul of Garnett, Kansas, Annette (John) Stoneking of Belton, Missouri and James Hedges of Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas Hedges and sister Joanne Coleman both of Kansas City, Missouri.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Friday, September 3, 2021 at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, Colorado Springs, Colorado. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903.
