Debra Ann Long was born Debra Ann McCaa on April 21st, 1957 (Easter Sunday) at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, Illinois. From her first breath, she was a delight to her parents, Margaret and Johnnie McCaa.
As an Air Force brat, she was constantly on the move … living in Illinois, Idaho, Nebraska, then Spain, then back to Nebraska... where she graduated from Bellevue East High School and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Nebraska Lincoln.
As a child, she was baptized by the Rev. Tommy L. Grozier at First Baptist Church in Bellevue, Nebraska after making a public profession of her faith in Jesus Christ as the Son of the Living God. Throughout her life she participated in church, chapel and Sunday School.
In June 1980, she married Captain Kevin L. Long and as a military wife, continued her whirlwind travels in places as far away as Germany and Korea. For 37 years, they shared each other. It would be a bond between them that Debra saw almost immediately; (She told Kevin on their second date that she intended to marry him!).
Debra’s Women’s Bible Study always maintained a special place in her heart. The members were always praying, encouraging and at times consoling each other through good times and bad. She repeatedly referred to the group as a blessing in her life.
Despite repeated bouts with cancer, her faith in Christ Jesus was never shaken. She battled to the very end... an inspiration to all who knew her as a true servant of the Lord.
Although she is missed, her family and friends rest secure in the knowledge that her suffering has ended, they will see her again and the promised reward of a beautiful, peaceful, carefree life is hers for all of eternity.
She is survived by her husband Kevin Long, her Father Johnnie McCaa of Colorado Springs, Colorado, her Father-in-law Ira Long of Bellevue, Nebraska, her brother and sister-in-law: John and Nora McCaa of Irving, Texas, and nephew Collin McCaa of Houston, Texas, longtime friends Alice Bell, Leslie Parker, Laurell Jones, Mary McKinney, and a host of many others.
Arrangements under the direction of Memorial Gardens Cemetery & Funeral Home, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
