Charles "Dave" Barnes

Charles David Barnes (Dave), 87, passed away on February 10, 2024. Dave was born to Curtis and Catherine Barnes in Racine Wisconsin on June 15, 1936. He graduated from Waterford Union High School and at the age of 22 enlisted in the US Army. Dave’s service to our country spanned thirteen years and included two tours in Vietnam where he earned outstanding recognition and multiple service awards. Following his military service, Dave was honorably discharged in 1971 at Fort Carson and made Colorado his home for the remainder of his life. He later met and fell in love with Karen May Peck, and they were married in Woodland Park on April 4, 1981. Dave worked in sales at Transit Mix Concrete Co. until his retirement. With the support of his loving wife Karen, Dave proudly achieved over thirty-five years of sobriety and would often share his story of hope and inspiration with strangers and friends alike.

Dave was an avid fisherman and could often be found along the banks of Prospect Lake with his favorite fishing companions. He would bring his catch home, store it in the freezer, and when he had collected enough, he would invite the neighborhood for a true Wisconsin-style fish fry. Dave was well-known and loved by his friends, and it was common for many to stop by his house and share stories or catch up on the latest events. The familiar image of his presence on the porch keeping a vigilant eye on the neighborhood will be sadly missed by all.

Dave is preceded in death by his wife Karen Barnes, father Curtis Barnes, mother Catherine Barnes, brother Curtis Barnes, and cousins Tom and Dick Lancaster.

He is survived by his cousin Harry Lancaster, Harry’s wife Patricia Lancaster, and also nieces and nephews.

Dave’s memorial service will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery on March 9th at 11:00 am. All those who wish to attend are invited.
