Carl E. Bruer (Ed) of Colorado Springs passed away on Aug 17, 2019. Ed was born May 27 1944 in Gulfport, Miss. To Edgar and Betty Bruer. Ed was raised in Allen Park, Michigan. He graduated from Western Michigan University. He served his Country in Vietnam with the 7th Regiment of the 1st Air Cavalry. He was 1st Lieutenant of a forward aid station. Ed was proud and passionate about the 1st Air Cavalry. Ed retired from the reserves with a rank of Captain. He enjoyed working with his fellow veterans to restore the Historic Vietnam Helicopter. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and DAV.
Ed worked in the insurance industry for 36 years, retiring as Vice President of Claims for Farmer Union Insurance.
Ed is survived by his wife of 33 years, Virginia. He is also survived by a son Matthew (Karen), stepchildren Mary Ann Farris (Jeff), Diane Mason (Scot), Susanne Tafoya, Ted Beckmann (Judy), two brothers, Dr Paul Bruer (Judy) and Rev. Robert Bruer (Joan), as well as 14 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.
He enjoyed entertaining and socializing with his many friends. Ed was an exceptional pool, golf, and craps player.
A special thanks to his close friend Allyson Love whom he considered a daughter, and her husband Art Felix. Special thanks as well to Jay and Becky Renocker, Bob and Sherry Hardoin, George and Jackie Kregas, and members of the 1st Cavalry Association for their support and kind caring.
A memorial service will be at 2pm Sunday, August 25th at the Swan-Law Funeral Home, 501 N. Cascade Ave., Colorado Springs.
