Bertha Maxine Kenney died peacefully in her sleep at Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on January 6, 2012. She was born on December 8, 1922, at the family home in Yoder, Colorado, to Carl K. and Lillie E. Weissenfluh. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven older brothers and sisters—Russell, Stanley “Dutch”, Helen, Clyde “Fritz”, LaHoma, Henry, and Arthur.
Bertha was a life-long resident of Yoder, Colorado. She retired from Civil Service in 1985 after having served as the Yoder Postmaster for nearly 30 years. She was an antique collector, and over the years beautifully restored many pieces of furniture which have become family heirlooms. She loved music, especially loved to sing, and ensured all her children had an opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.
Bertha is survived by her husband, James M. “Mike” Kenney of Yoder; children Rebecca (William) Rodenbeck of Canon City, Cynthia Coszalter (David Bowers) of Glenwood Springs, Cameron (Sharon) Richardson of Yoder, and Heather (Ron) Covert of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Christopher Rodenbeck, Sunday Wilson, Nathan Rodenbeck, Amy Sacco, Olivia Coszalter, Jason Noble, and Angela Sebaduka; great-grandchildren Jackson Coszalter-Vigil, Michael Rodenbeck, Rowan Noble, Judah Miller, Jeshua Miller, and David Sebaduka.
The family wishes to express its deep gratitude to the caring staff of Wynwood of Brookdale Assisted Living in Colorado Springs.
Visitation is scheduled at Swan-Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 9. Graveside services will be conducted at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Expressway, Colorado Springs, on Tuesday, January 10, at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Edison Volunteer Fire Department, 33645 Shear Road, Yoder, CO 80864 will be appreciated.
