
Alan was born on 12/24/1951 in Winslow, AZ, the son of Eustace Scott Jr. and Peggy June Hill. He had two younger half-brothers, Audie L Hill and Roger Hill. Alan is survived by his son Marc, half-brother Audie, his wife Anne and their 4 surviving children, Laura, Daniel, Timmy and Damien (daughter Audie Annmarie has since deceased).
Alan graduated from Aberdeen Senior High School in Maryland, class of 1969. He went on to graduate from Pikes Peak Community College in 1981 with an Associate's in Applied Sciences in Police Science. He later received a Bachelor’s degree through Colorado State University in Sociology/Criminology. Alan was quite the student with close to perfect grades, often getting kudos from the instructors on his A+ written assignments. He also continued his education throughout his police career by attending additional classes and seminars.
Alan began his career as a Police Cadet for the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) in 1970. In his 40 years as a career officer, Alan took on numerous roles. He served as a Patrol Officer, SWAT Officer for the Tactical Enforcement Unit, Detective of Complex Crimes, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Watch Commander, SWAT, K-9 and Crisis Negotiations Team Commander, Metro Vice Lieutenant for the Narcotics and Intelligence Division, Public Information Officer for the Chief’s Office, and Special Investigations Commander for Computer, Forensics and White-Collar Crimes. Alan retired in 2010 as Police Lieutenant. He was particularly proud of his educational focus on investigations, tactical operations, high technology crimes, computer forensics and providing leadership to others. Alan left a lasting impact on his colleagues and his community through his dedication to his police career.
Alan married Gail Marie Vondergathen in 1980. Alan and Gail were married 42 years before she passed away on 11/02/2022. Gail and Alan enjoyed camping, road trips and square dancing together. The couple was blessed with their son, Marc A Scott, in 1986 with Marc following in Alan’s footsteps, now serving as a Police Sergeant in Homicide for the CSPD. Alan enjoyed hunting, fishing and teaching gun safety to Marc. Alan is also survived by his extended family, Karen, Linda, Judy and Kathy (sisters of Gail) and their children (Cindy, Julie, Stephanie, Lianna, Doug, Dan and Jason).
Alan’s passion outside of work included collecting knives and guns, traveling, being in nature, photography, time spent with family, especially while exploring his beloved Oregon Coast, and meeting friends at his favorite breakfast/lunch spots or a night out at the movies. Alan loved animals and cherished having dogs throughout the years and spoiling them rotten.
Alan Wayne Scott's legacy is one of public service, generosity, humor, family and friendships. He touched the lives of many through his work, community involvement, and personal relationships. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Alan's life will be forthcoming. Friends and family will be invited to gather and share memories of Alan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any animal rescue of your choice, reflecting Alan's love of animals.
