He was born in Oklahoma City on April 15, 1940 to Samuel Elmer Crenshaw and Ellen Elisabeth Wardle Crenshaw.
Sam was a man who lived out his faith in God in all that he did, worked hard to provide for his family and contributed in so many ways to his church family. At the young age of 20, Sam married Doris White who was the love of his life. Together, they raised 2 wonderful children who blessed them every day. He taught them the value of faith, hard work, and of raising a family. Many will remember Sam from his time as a mail-carrier, but Sam’s true passion was at home where he enjoyed being a father and a great pawpaw. He was a member of the Broadway Baptist Church in Sweetwater where he taught Sunday school, led children’s church, drove the bus, sang, and helped in some repair work when he was able. As with all of us, Sam could be a bit ornery and he loved to tease the people he loved, but in good faith as he loved talking to just about everybody and could engage anyone he met in conversation. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, singing, playing his trumpet, building and fixing things, and playing dominoes. He also enjoyed trying new recipes on his grill, working on lawnmowers and small engines, and spending as much time as he could with his children and grandchildren. Sam had an active imagination and loved reading and writing, authoring many short stories and three books. The values he exemplified in his daily life will be passed down through his family for many generations.
Sam is survived by his loving wife Doris Crenshaw of Abilene, his son Travis Crenshaw and wife Christy of Dallas, his daughter Sheila Parmer and her husband Mike of Abilene, and by his grandchildren Shauna Parker and husband Aaron of Forney, Chris Crenshaw and wife Lauren of Rockwall, Meagan Pantuso and husband Patrick of Slaton, and Kynzie Blankenship and husband Levi of Edmond Oklahoma. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren Zoe Parker, Hadley Crenshaw, Steven Parker, Easton Blankenship, and Cash Blankenship, and by his faithful companion, Scout.
He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Ellen Crenshaw, by a brother James Crenshaw, and by a sister Nancy Sitler.
A Celebration of Sam’s life will be held on Monday, November 18th at 11 AM in the Kiker Seale Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Daniel Stovall of the Broadway Baptist Church of Sweetwater officiating.
