Robert Lincoln Ramage, age 93, went home to be with Jesus on Monday, September 29, 2014. He was at home at the time of his death. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church in Colorado City on Saturday, October 4th at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel.
Bob was born in a dugout in Chaves County, New Mexico to Robert Walter and Leah Sterling Ramage on February 2, 1921. He loved his country and went on to serve in the armed forces. He was an engineer and top turret gunner in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He flew 39 missions over German-occupied territory with the 301st bomber group.
Bob married Bettye Gartman of Sanco on August 11, 1946, at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo. Together, they raised a family and owned and operated at least two businesses in Mitchell County.
After many decades of service, Bob retired from American PetroFina. He and Bettye started Ramage Furniture & Appliance as a side business. He and his sons operated the business after school and regular work hours. In 1963, Bob opened Ramage Furniture & Appliance full-time.
An impressive businessman, Bob owned and operated many rental properties around Colorado City, as well. He was still overseeing the properties at the time of his death.
Bob was a great community volunteer. He coached the Dodger baseball team every summer and took team members to church with him on many occasions. He was an active member of Oak Street Baptist Church, serving as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was also an active member of the Colorado City Lions Club for 20-plus years.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Bettye of Colorado City; one daughter, Ethel Lady of Arlington; sons, Alan and wife, Vicki Ramage of Colorado City and Robert Lewis and Lanette Ramage of Royse City; grandchildren, Coley Ramage of Colorado City, Anthony Lady and wife, Gina of Keller, Kameron and husband, Brian Earles of Royse City, Elizabeth and Jon Jackson of Arlington, LeeAnn and husband, Dee Roach of Colorado City, and Judd Ramage of Royse City; great-grandchildren, Ryann Louderman, Evelyn and Amelia Lady, all of Keller, Annaka Earles of Royse City, Aidan and Avery Jackson of Arlington, Zack and Sara Stone of Colorado City; and a son of the Ramage’s heart, Scott Cawthron of Lubbock.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Colorado City Lions Club or the Oak Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Mary Ellis and a brother, Jarrel Ramage.
