She was born on October 13, 1961 in Colorado City to James Otis and Geneva Green Mayes.
Mary Ellen was a graduate of Colorado High Class of 1981. She was a simple lady who enjoyed keeping her circle small and having a quiet peaceful life filled with time for reflection and to enjoy the company of family. She was always a loving person who enjoyed being there to support her nieces and nephews in all their endeavors and encouraged them when they were ready for the next step. In her spare time she enjoyed playing Bingo, going to the game rooms, listening to Gospel music, and watching the Dallas Cowboys and Golden State Warriors play ball.
Mary Ellen is survived by her brothers John Jackson and wife Elizabeth of Colorado City, Charles Boone and wife Ella of Colorado City, James Lee Mayes Green of Colorado City, Willie T Mayes of Colorado City, and Larry Mayes and his girlfriend Joy of Colorado City, as well as by her sisters Barbara Monroe and husband Tommy of Colorado City, Jonell Mayes and husband Larry of Colorado City, Charlene McAdams and husband Mark of Colorado City, Beverly Wright and husband John of Midland, Kathy Green of Colorado City, Linda Fitzpatrick and husband Frank of Colorado City, Doris Faye Green of Colorado City, Doris Mae Wiley and husband Roosevelt of Midland, Juanita Johnson and husband Henry of Odessa, and Lacy Franco and husband Isaac of Webster. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and two special friends Michael “Slim” Geiger and Lorenzo Vasquez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, by a brother Louis Green, her twin sister Mary Helen May, and by another sister Linda Mae Combs.
A funeral service for Mary Ellen will be held on Saturday, May 4th at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church in Colorado City with burial to follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery. The family will be present for a visitation from 6-8 Friday night at Kiker Seale Funeral Home in the chapel.
