He was born May 16, 1923 in Marfa Texas to Hazel Violet Coy Moore and Leo Wesley Moore. Stan was raised in El Paso Texas until he joined the US Navy in 1942. Stan served in WWII in the South Pacific. After honorable discharge in 1946, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Jean Dawson, in Colorado City, Texas on March 9, 1946. Stanley worked for El Paso Natural Gas and was relocated to New Mexico. They lived there until his retirement in 1981. They returned to Colorado City where they lived out the rest of their lives together. He was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Colorado City and loved the Masonic Lodge. He loved fishing, hunting, and golf, and spent a lot of time enjoying what retirement had to offer. He was fluent in Spanish and enjoyed practicing what may have been his first language. He will be remembered by many for his mischievous sense of humor, and giving folks a hard time if he liked them. He was a loving husband and father, who loved God, his family and life.
He is survived by his daughter, Brenda an husband , Charlie Shifflett of Colorado City . Brother in law, Bill Taylor of Colorado City. Several nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, his wife of 64 years, and two sons.
Family visitation will be 10:00- 11:00 am at First Methodist Church of Colorado City on December 17,2018. Services will follow visitation, with Pastor James Williams, and Pastor Donald Ward officiating.
Interment will follow at Handly Cemetery on North 1229.
