John Wilson Bullock passed away April 24, 2020 in Colorado City. John was born in Colorado City, TX to Sam and Maggie Bullock April 21, 1932. As a child, he lived in the China Grove community in Scurry County, TX, but moved to Westbrook, TX at age three. He graduated at Westbrook High School in 1949 and graduated from Hardin- Simmons University in Abilene, TX in 1953.
He served several churches in various positions, serving as minister of music, religious education, youth, and church administrator in churches in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Missouri. After retirement, he served as bi-vocational minister of music at Oak Street Baptist Church, Colorado City, for twenty years from 1993 to 2013.
After retiring from full-time church work, he worked for the Texas Workforce
Commission for five years, then as a school bus driver for Colorado Independent Schools three years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Maggie Bullock, a brother, Earl Bullock, and two sisters, Judy Ruddick and husband, Lawrence Ruddick and Nell Leach and husband Floyd Leach. His father, Sam Bullock, was County Judge in Mitchell County, Texas for ten years beginning in 1949. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father in law, Birdie and Arthur Kelley, who owned and operated Kelley's Shoe Store in Colorado City.
John married the love of his life, Marion Kelley Bullock in Colorado City January 30,
1953. She preceded him in death March 22, 2016. He is survived by three children, RuthEllen Hall of California MD, Valerie White of Loxahatchee FL, and David Bullock of Dallas TX. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Chris Hall and wife, Kelly and,
Cherise Hall of California, MD and William Bullock and wife, Jerrica, of Abilene,TX. William was adopted by John and Marion and raised as their child. Also surviving are four great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Hannah, Thomas and Trevin.
As a charter member of the widely acclaimed CenturyMen choir, John traveled the world with 100 auditioned music ministers. During John's tenure with the group, the CenturyMen were Grammy Award finalists, nominated for Dove Awards, and traveled throughout the United States and around the globe sharing the gospel of Christ through music. This choir has produced a number of Christian music albums.
Also, he was a member of the Singing Men of West Texas, serving as treasurer of this choir for ten years. Tours with this choir included those to New Mexico, California, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska and the Big Bend area of west Texas. He participated with this choir in many Christian concerts across west Texas.
