She was born on March 21, 1932 in Van Buren, Arkansas to George and Pearl Taylor Archer.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Making Million Dollar Fudge with her daughters was a favorite Christmas tradition. Her grandchildren were spoiled with trips to Wal-Mart, sleepovers and morning coffee that was mostly milk and sugar. The next generation of grandchildren looked forward to their trips to the dollar store and card games that were always fun but a tad competitive.
Joan had a serious sweet tooth and made some of the best Chocolate “Stuff”. If she thought you liked it, she was going to make it for you. She taught her daughters to make many dinner staples that their children still request for birthday dinners.
She loved playing bingo, Western Swing dancing, and going to the Golden Nugget in Vegas with her husband, sisters, and friends. She was always happy to take her grandchildrens’ quarters to Vegas to see if they could hit it big on the slots.
Joan was Mitchell County Clerk for 15 years from 1979 until her retirement in 1994. She was visited at her courthouse office often by her grandchildren, and she made sure she had candy corn or other treats for them at every visit.
Joan was a long standing member of First Baptist Church of Colorado City. She kept the church supplied with candy and “The Preacher” with Mountain Dew. She served on the Park Board for a number of years.
Joan is survived by a sister, Bobbie Griffin, her daughters, Vicki Rinehart and husband Jerry of Snyder and Sue Ann Dominguez and husband Jessie of Artesia, New Mexico, daughters-by-choice, Toni Everett and husband Bill of Colorado City, and Roxie Strain of Colorado City.
