Gwen was born in Weatherford, Texas to Lee Carter and Fay Kirkpatrick Carter Grable. They moved to Colorado City when she was 2 years old. She lived here for most of her life. She was very dedicated to this city, All Saint’s Episcopal Church, the playhouse and the library. She touched many lives through her volunteer work and her work at the Community Center, teaching Kindergarten, and substitute teaching in the public schools.
She is survived by her children: Sally Wistrand and wife, Dawn Tschabrun of Placitis, New Mexico; Hunter Wistrand and wife, Virginia of Spring Branch, Texas; Richard Wistrand and wife, Anne of Crowley, Texas; Fay Ellis and husband, Bill of Colorado City; and Anna Walter and husband, Stephen of Boerne, Texas. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild and 2 great-great grandchildren arriving in a few months. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Millie Duebel and husband, Ken of Port Charlotte, Florida, and sister-in-law, Doris Avila of New Jersey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Wistrand; her parents, Lee Carter and Fay Carter Grable; her step-father Bernie Grable; and her great grandchild, William Robert Ellis.
Viewing will be on Tuesday, July 25th until 5:00 PM. Services will be at All Saint’s Episcopal Church on Wednesday, July 26th at 11:00 AM. Gwen will be buried in the Oakland Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas next to her loving husband, Dick, on Thursday July 27th at 1:00 PM.
