She was born in Liberal Kansas on November 6, 1933 to Johnnie and Edna Kennedy Jones.
Esther was a great mother and grandmother who worked hard alongside her husband as co-owner of Colorado City Electric from 1960 to 1991 to provide the best life for their children while raising the way God intended. She was a long standing member of the First Baptist Church of Colorado City and found it important to live by her faith. When not at work she was very active in her children’s events. She was a Boy Scout leader, a leader and director for Girl Scouts, an active member of the Band Boosters and Wolves Football Booster Clubs all through their school years. After retiring she spent a lot of time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to whip up on them in the card game Kings in the Corner. In her spare time she enjoyed golfing, was a member of the Snyder Women’s Golf Association and the West Texas Women’s Golf Association. The love and affection and lessons she taught her family and friends over the years will be cherished for years to come.
She is survived by her son Carl Guelker and wife Sue of Colorado City, 2 daughters Terri Robben and husband George of Savannah, GA and Genia Conner and husband Kent of Owasso, OK, daughter-in-law Debby Guelker, by grandchildren Michelle Guelker, Samantha Guelker-Roy (Phil), Cheyenne Olive (Bob), Dan Sierra (Morgan), Jessica Letcher (Paula), Corey Conner (Kendra), and Trevor Conner (Brittany), as well as by great-grandchildren Gabe Sierra, Ava Sierra, Stella Letcher, RJ Letcher, Sibyl Conner, and Alden Conner.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years J.H. Guelker who she married in Sweetwater on October 7, 1951 in Colorado City, by her son Tommy Jay Guelker, her parents, and by siblings Harold Jones, Johnnie Jones Jr., Alfred Jones, Billie Jones, Butchie Jones, and Virginia Morello.
A funeral for Esther will be held in the Kiker Seale Funeral Home Chapel at 11am on Saturday, January, 22nd with Doctor Jerry Shields officiating. Burial will follow in the Colorado City Cemetery.
A viewing will be held Friday night from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home and Saturday before the funeral.
