Gary Tong

Gary immigrated to the United States at age 8 and grew up in San Francisco’s Chinatown. He graduated from Francisco Jr. High School, George Washington High School, and City College of San Francisco with an Associate of Science degree in Electronics Technology. Following graduation, he pursued a career in electronics and worked for Ampex and Pacific Gas & Electric Co. Gary spent the majority of his working years maintaining and repairing light rail vehicles for MUNI for the City and County of San Francisco.

Gary is survived by his sister Suzanne Notario (Gary Notario), brother Daniel Tong (Cynthia Tong), niece Lindsey Tsuboi (Steven Tsuboi), nephew Jason Notario, and grandnieces Kadelyn Tsuboi and Aurelia Tsuboi. Predeceased family members include his mother Hilma Tong, father Kenneth Tong, and older brother Guanwen.

Gary loved spending time with his family. His hobbies and interests included doing tai chi, going fishing, and playing tennis. He always enjoyed watching television whether it was a basketball game, tennis match, or movie. He spent much of his free time assembling and disassembling his multitude of electronic equipment, always searching for that perfect-sounding stereo system.

May Gary rest in peace. We will always love and miss him.
