She is free. Susan Frances Evelyn Trenchi Henninger passed into heaven peacefully Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at her home after a prolonged illness. Susan was born October 18,1950 to Art and Fran in New Haven, Connecticut and grew up in Tullahoma, Tennessee.
Susan went on to attend Middle Tennessee State University and marry Allen Henninger, her high school sweetheart. Putting down roots in Memphis, they raised two children, Bess and Erik, in Scenic Hills, where Susan lived a life of service to her church, family, friends, and community.
Affectionately known as Sweet Pea, Susan loved her grandchildren. She loved travel, tennis, reading, gardening, Memphis Tiger Basketball and singing in the choir at church. She welcomed all around her table and thought of others before herself. Susan quietly touched many lives, and loved to send notes of encouragement.
Susan was a dependable and tireless volunteer. Whether it be a Scenic Hills UMC committee, Recreation Club board, ECS Harvest Festival chair, Bible Study Fellowship leader or Meals on Wheels, Susan’s life belonged to the community.
Time in Tullahoma, at Scenic Hills, volunteering, working for Hallmark, worshipping at church, and playing tennis yielded her many beautiful life-long friends and travel companions.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Frances Trenchi. She is survived by a loving family: her husband of 51 years, Allen Henninger, daughter Bess (Jones) Warren, son Erik (Alison) Henninger, sister Lorraine Ferrell, and her grandchildren Ellie Claire and Archer Warren and Graham and Emily Henninger.
To honor Susan Henninger, a Celebration of Life will be held at Scenic Hills United Methodist Church Monday, March 20th. Visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Scenic Hills United Methodist Church or The Mid-South Parkinson’s Disease Foundation.
