Robert Hughes Temple, 89, of Collierville, went into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on the night of November 15th, 2013. He was born January 23, 1924 in Brookhaven, MS to the late Kelly Dale Temple and Maynie Edna Russell Temple. He served his country as a decorated Staff Sergeant in the Army Air Corp during World War II and he married the love of his life, Myrtis Roberts, on August 14, 1957. Mr. Temple was a retired supervisor with the U. S. Postal Service. He was a past deacon and Sunday school teacher with the Lamar Heights Baptist Church and Southland Baptist Church and was a member of the Central Church for the past 20 years. Mr. Temple was a Bible Schollar, enjoyed reading, sports and loved his family who will dearly miss him. Along with his wife, Myrtis Temple, he is survived by two daughters, Janice Richter (Ed) of Bartlett and Donna Schmidt (Rick) of Collierville, Granddaughters, Beth Autry (Jon), Jessica Richter, Rosie Mancell (Derek), and Rebecca Schmidt; Grandsons, Kyle Schmidt (Amanda), Kenny Schmidt (Valerie), Kevin Schmidt (Nicole) and Ben Richter, and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Kulvi and a brother, Everett Kelly Temple. The family will receive friends at Collierville Funeral Home, Monday, Nov. 18th, from 5pm to 8pm. A service celebrating his life will be Tuesday, Nov. 19th at 2pm in the T. Carl Rutledge Memorial Chapel of Collierville Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Southwoods Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Central Church or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
