Marvin “Scott” Liles passed away at 62 years old on July 27, 2021. Scott was born on June 26, 1959 in Fullerton, CA. Scott had two beautiful daughters, Paige Olivia, of Nashville, TN, and Jamie Leigh of Collierville, TN.
Scott married their mother, Rose Anne (Henson) Liles in 1993. They continued to celebrate holidays and special occasions as a family with their daughters and friends. Even though divorced, Rose Anne and Scott remained friends. Scott always called his girls “Paigey” and “Jamiers” and they were his reason for living. Though “Daddy-O” is no longer with us, he and his humor will never be forgotten.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life Reception and Visitation on August 6th at 5:30 p.m. and funeral service at 7 p.m. at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 West Poplar Avenue, Collierville, TN. We invite all family, friends, and members of the community. Future burial at Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, and a ceremony to spread his ashes in the waters of Newport Beach, CA.
Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley and Marvin Liles. And his nephew, Nicholas Burrows, and great nephew, Taner Fuquay.
Scott is survived by his daughters, Paige and Jamie Liles, and their mother. He also leaves his loving sister, Pamela McGinnis, and two older brothers, Jeff (Barbara) and Greg (Darlene) Liles. Uncle Scott leaves 7 nieces & nephews, and 13 great nieces & nephews.
Scott attended Heritage Christian School and graduated from Anaheim High School in Anaheim, CA and had an AA degree in Photo Journalism from Orange Coast College. Scott said he went to college, so he could ditch class and go surfing. Scott became interested in cars and photography at a young age and had many of his photos published in car magazines. He was a writer and photographer for many Fishing & Hunting News in Seattle and then in the Mid-South Hunting & Fishing News in Memphis. During this time Scott maintained a freelance business as well. He gained valuable fishing knowledge from spending time working with his friend, Bill Dance.
Scott went to work for Ducks Unlimited in Memphis and became a host for their TV program on TNN. Scott worked with Baer Media to host In Pursuit Hunting at its Best then moved to Nashville to host Everything Outdoors. Scott had a love for the outdoors and pursued every kind of hunting and fishing possible. In recent years, Scott worked for his good friend, Buck Gardner, and learned the duck call business. Scott was at the time of his death owner of DucksUSA, a web based wholesale and retail custom duck call business which he leaves to his daughters.
As a young man, Scott’s favorite pastime was to go surfing at 56th Street in Newport Beach with his buddies and he often told fond stories of family summertime trips to Mexico. Scott’s friends remember him as a talented surfer, having the best sense of humor, being a great story teller and his overall “coolness”.
Scott’s favorite activity to do with his daughters when they were young was to go to Percy Priest Lake and waterski. His girls learned from the best. His girls were fishing before they had bikes, and hunting before they could drive. They loved to sit on his lap and “Drive” the lawnmower, the truck, or the boat. And they didn’t mind if they happened to be caught on camera, either. We are so blessed to have the many videos and photos of our family.
Scott was the kind of dad that busted thru the door and chaos ensued. He was the dad that riled them up just as they were supposed to go to sleep. He used to always have to test their food, just to make sure it was “Safe”. He was fearless in his pursuits and he has fearless daughters. Recently he went with them for their Tennessee license to carry classes. He wanted to be sure they could take care of themselves.
Scott’s biggest accomplishment in life was not only his family, but also practicing his sobriety every day and supporting others in the same mission.
“There’s a time to come and time to go, and the time has come to go.”
