Leroy “Lee” Deforrest Powell III, at 75 years of age, went home to be with Jesus on July 23, 2024. His 18 years of serious health battles and challenges showed his perseverance and strength, displaying his dedication and love for his family. Lee was a fighter and a warrior until the very end, when the Lord called him home.
Lee grew up in church, but learned what it meant to truly follow Christ in his more recent years. All praise be to God!
Lee was a faithful husband to his wife Jeannie, whom he met on a blind date 33 years ago. It was love at first sight and they were engaged to be married just three months later. He was a father to two beautiful children, Bradley and Rachel. He had a heart full of love and commitment to his family, no matter the health obstacles he faced. Lee leaves behind many family members and friends that he loved dearly.
Lee was a proud veteran, serving four honorable years in the US Navy. A graduate of Memphis State, with a degree in mechanical engineering, he spent his life reading blueprints. He was co-owner of BP Mechanical Insulation for much of his career. Lee was an All State football player in high school and loved watching sports, especially the Memphis Tigers! He enjoyed watching movies, the peacefulness of sitting outdoors, and had a passionate heart for animals. Every night, he looked forward to reading the Bible before bed.
Lee was a kind soul with a heart of gold who loved to laugh and crack jokes, even in the last week of his life. He will forever be missed.
The visitation will be held Friday, July 26, from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with the funeral service immediately following from 7:00-8:00 p.m., at Collierville Funeral Home (corner of Bailey Station & Winchester).
In lieu of flowers, Lee requested any donations be made to a local animal shelter.
We are celebrating Lee’s life so please join our family in wearing colorful attire.
