John Benjamin Holland Jr. was born on August 28, 1926 in Humboldt, TN. to Rev. Ben Holland Sr. and Vera McKenzie Holland. He served in the Navy during World War II in both the Atlantic and the Pacific. After his service, he attended Union University and was then employed by the state of TN in an adult rehabilitation workshop. Before retirement, he was also employed at Power Tools Memphis. John was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church for thirty-four years. He taught the Berean Bible Class for twenty-two years and the New Horizon Class for five years in addition to being an usher, tour guide, and president of Keen-agers. Throughout this time, he was an active member of the Gideons. After their move to Collierville, the Hollands were happy to call Collierville First Baptist Church their place of worship. John is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Jane Wilson Holland, daughters Vera Holland of Jasper, TX and Jackie Thompson (Woody) of Killeen, TX, son John M. Holland (Dora) of Fresno, CA, and step-daughter Sherry Street Bell (Dyrus). He was “Pops” to his grandchildren Fred Thompson, Johnathan Thompson, Justin Short, and Meghan Cupo. John also had seven great grand children. The service will be held at Collierville Funeral Home on Tuesday, August 24, at 1:00 p.m., and the family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. until the service. Interment will follow in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, with Navy Honors. At the request of the family, please send all memorials to Collierville First Baptist Church or Gideons International.
