James (Jim) David Lowitzer was called home by his Lord and Savior on the morning of April 8, 2022, at his home in Collierville, TN at 74 years old. Jim was born in Rochester, NY at St. Mary’s Hospital on July 10, 1947, to his parents Edwin Ferdinand Lowitzer and Charlotte Louise (Kopp) Lowitzer. He became a baptized child of God at Hope Lutheran Church in Rochester. Jim was proud of his childhood paper route, his service in the United States Air Force, as well as his work in materials management at Kodak, French’s, Sterling Drug, and the many other jobs he held. Of all the job titles he was ever given, father was his favorite. Jim was active at Faith Lutheran Church & Preschool serving as an elder, bible study leader, choir director, and friend to many. He was also active in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS) as a member of the Commission on Worship (1998-2006) and delegate to conventions. One of Jim’s favorite ways to support the church was by looking after and mentoring numerous pastors over the years. Jim enjoyed watching golf, being active in the LCMS, reading, and storytelling. His stories were vivid, hilarious, and always had something that made you stop and wonder how he accomplished so much in one lifetime.
Jim is survived by his wife Margaret Kathleen (Lytle) Lowitzer, his daughter Margaret Louise Lowitzer and his siblings, Sandra Joan England and John Edwin Lowitzer, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Joan Marie (Winkey) Lowitzer, and his daughter, Jessica Joan Lowitzer. May he rest in peace finally knowing why the avocado pit is so big.
There will be a visitation at Faith Lutheran Church, 507 New Byhalia Rd, Collierville, TN on Saturday, April 16, 2022, from 11-12:45 pm CST with a memorial service to follow at 1 pm CST. The service will be live-streamed at faithcollierville.com/streamingworship or on Facebook at Faith Collierville Worship Live. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Preschool Scholarship Fund at Faith Lutheran Church.
