Henry was born to Grady and Cleo (nee James) Leath on October 16, 1940 in Canaan, Mississippi. He was part owner of Shelby Electric Company where he worked as an electrician for 45 years, and was a member of IBEW Local 474. He was a true blue Memphis Tiger fan cheering on the Memphis Tiger basketball and football teams, rarely missing a home game. He was a devoted Christian, a member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church, most recently attending Saulsbury Baptist Church in Saulsbury, Tennessee. Henry loved his church and his family.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents. He leaves his wife of 61 years, Sallye , his son Rodney (Patti), his daughter Cindy Wright (Shannon), four grandchildren, Ashley Leath Dodson (Kevin), Rebecca Leath Pollock (Alex), Luke Samuel Wright and Tanner James Wright, and six great grandchildren. He adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Henry loved the name given to him by his great grandchildren, who could not say Henry; it was shortened to “Hiney.”
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, February 7 from 6-8 pm at Collierville Funeral Home, 534 West Poplar, Collierville, Tennessee.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday February 8 at 10:00 am at Collierville Funeral Home with a small reception to follow from 11:00-1:00 pm.
Interment for his final resting place will be at 3:00 pm February 8 at Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery, 1246 Canaan Road, Ashland, Mississippi.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored to have donations made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
