Cliff Smith died on September 21, 2022 in Germantown Tennessee at the age of 91. He was born January 29, 1931 in Des Arc, Arkansas, the son of Thomas Ira Smith and Mattie Heavener Smith. He grew up in Des Arc and worked in timber and in farming. He married Dixie Ann Cook in 1949 and the couple eventually relocated to Memphis, Tennessee where Cliff worked as a gas and electrical appliance installer for Jenkins Inc. In 1953 he was drafted into the United States Army and served his country during the Korean War including Service overseas in Pusan and Inchon Korea. After the war he and Dixie would live in Memphis, Nashville, and Collierville Tennessee, before retiring and moving back to Des Arc, Arkansas. Eventually the couple returned to the Collierville area to be near their children and grandchildren. Cliff and Dixie raised three children, Billy Smith currently of Oakland, Tennessee, Lisa Chism currently of Columbia, Tennessee and Philip Smith currently of Germantown, Tennessee.
During the majority of Cliff’s professional career, he worked for the Cain Sloan company in Nashville and for almost 23 years worked for Scott Appliance Company in Memphis which was ultimately acquired by the Tandy Corporation. Cliff retired from Tandy in 1995 as the organization’s overall Service Manager for Tandy‘s Scott Appliance, McDuff Appliance, and Video Concepts stores.
Cliff is survived by the love of his life, Dixie Ann Cook Smith, with whom he was married 73 years and by his children Billy (Helen), Lisa (Tom) and Philip (Dorree Jane). He is also survived by 7 Grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by an infant son, Tommy, and all 10 of his siblings being his two sisters Genevieve Weatherly and Zelda Johnson and his seven brothers, Cleon, Herbert, Onis, Lloyd, Norman, Cleburne, and James.
A visitation will be held on Monday, September 26 from 11 a.m. until noon at Grace Chapel, 730 S. Byhalia Rd., Collierville, Tennessee with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be at Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville with military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Grace Chapel.
