Charles Vaught, 91, of Barton, Mississippi, formerly of Germantown, Tennessee passed away peacefully December 28, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a long time member of Germantown Baptist Church and a current member of Covenant Baptist Church.
He served in the United States Army during World War II and later in the United States Navy. He worked for Plough, Incorporated prior to founding Great Southern Corporation.
He was a volunteer firefighter for Germantown Fire Department for thirteen years. His hobbies included fishing, sports, model railroading and travel. He participated in many Senior Olympic sports and won numerous medals.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years, Ann Vaught; together they traveled to all fifty states and over fifty countries.
Mr. Vaught is survived by his six children, June Snyder, Jack Vaught (Kathy), Steve Vaught (Laurie), Beverly Knecht (Joey), Scott Vaught (Susan) and Gloria Burson (Tom); eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves one sister Sara Wells.
Visitation will be Tuesday January 2, 2018 from 4-6 P.M. at Covenant Baptist Church, 3170 Old Houston Levee Road, Collierville, Tennessee with the funeral service immediately following.
Interment will take place Monday January 8, 2018 at 11:30 A.M. at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. Gifts in memory of Mr. Vaught may be offered to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Memphis Union Mission.
