Betty was born on March 29, 1930, to Herbert Cory and Bessie Loraine (Blovelt) Smith in Memphis, TN. She is survived by her daughter, Julie (Jerry) Jordan of Cordova; her grandchildren Jay Jordan of Bullard, TX, John (Emily) Jordan of Bryan, TX, Jenna Jordan of Waterloo, IA; her 5 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Betty was preceded in death by her father and mother, her 4 siblings: Louis Allen Smith, Peggy Joyce Waggener, Shirley Ann Waggener and Janice Carol Westbrook all of Memphis.
Betty went to Gragg Elementary School and Bartlett High School graduating in 1948. In 1950, she was employed by Bellsouth Telephone Company and worked there as an operator and manager for 32 years until it became AT&T. After she retired from AT&T, she was employed at Bellevue Baptist Church in the Pre-school Department for four years.
Betty was a dedicated and faithful Christian. She was saved in 1974 while living in Chattanooga. Her faith in the Lord Jesus impacted many people, not the least of which were many 5 year olds she taught over a span of 40+ years at Bellevue.
When Betty reached the age of 90 she moved to Quail Ridge Assisted Living. Her desire was to help new residents adjust to their new living situation. She also shared the love of Jesus with each caregiver and staff person alike.
