Barbara Jeanette "BJ" Horton Javer, 71, passed away on October 1, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Betty Jean Horton, and her three sisters, Susan, Gwen, and Bobbie. She is survived by her husband of 33 years Michael Javer, her brother Wesley Horton, her five children, Steve, Jacob, Alex, Michaella, and Russell, her grandson James and her 4 dogs and 3 horses.
BJ began her career in law enforcement by blazing a trail as one of the first three women to graduate the Mississippi Highway Patrol academy. After leaving Mississippi, she became an officer for the Memphis Police Department where she achieved the rank of lieutenant before retiring in 2016. BJ and Mike were long time Collierville residents and spent their free time caring for horses, camping, and spending time with family.
Visitation will be held at Incarnation Catholic Church in Collierville on Tuesday October 10th at 10am with services at 11. The reception will be immediately after the services followed by the procession to Magnolia Cemetery at 435 S Mt. Pleasant.
