Shirley was born on January 10th, 1945, in Thayer, Missouri. She grew up with a large family of 8 children in both Thayer and Greenville, Tennessee. From this time, she has shared many stories with her grandchildren recounting the trouble she and her siblings got into.
As an adult, Shirley worked for an import/export company, then became an entrepreneur as she started her own successful embroidery business. On August 23rd, 1979, she married the love of her life, Tom Brown. Together, they raised their family of five children as they moved several times throughout the Southeast.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother, Opal England, as well as her siblings Tommy England, Bedford England, Bob England, Cindy Mosser, and Kathy Davis. She is survived by her brothers Gene and Glenn (Peggy) England. She is also survived by her husband and five children, Renee (Jason) Burchell, Robin (Eric) Reitler, Cindy (Kevin) Trotman, Jeffery Brown, and Gregory (Brooke) Brown. Between these children, Shirley is survived by 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Not only did Shirley come from and proceed to have a large family, but she also became the heart of that family. The house that she shared with Tom became the central meeting point for all family get-togethers and celebrations. When Shirley was not telling her famous stories to anyone who would listen, she enjoyed listening to her crime audiobooks while playing solitaire, gardening, sewing, or baking. She also loved trying her luck on slot machines. Many of these passions Shirley has passed on to her children and grandchildren; they will continue to remember her as they poorly attempt to recreate her recipes or sewing patterns (all while watching the Investigation Discovery channel).
