She was born in Moscow, Russia to Nonna Chulkova and Nikolay Manuk. Child of the war, Marina lost her father as a toddler when he was pronounced as Missing in Action. Her mother Nonna was raising Marina and her brother Anatoly alone.
After graduating from Moscow High School Marina worked as a typist in an Architectural firm and later became and accountant until she retired.
She had a passion for movies and alongside her best friend kept up with current cinematography. She once was an extra on a film and always laughed that she was cut out from it.
Marina married her High School sweetheart, Gennady Strachenkov on March 28, 1964 with whom she had one daughter Natalya and they were together till his death in 2015.
Marina also played an important role in the raising of her granddaughter Katya.
She always spoiled her family with her cooking skills and made the best home made soups and traditional foods.
Marina was a remarkable host and loved to welcome her friends and family into her home where they had gatherings with lots of homemade meals, good talk and laughs.
She had a passion for reading, enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, playing dominoes as well as spending time with her family.
In 2015 Marina immigrated to the United States to reunite with her daughter, son in law and granddaughter and her dream of becoming a US Citizen came true in the spring of 2024.
She was survived by her daughter Natalya, son in law Joe Coles, granddaughter Katya and brother Anatoly.
The world will never be the same without her and she is truly missed, but will forever remain in our hearts.
Marina’s private funeral will be held at a later date.
