Marilyn Shook was born September 7, 1929 to Ralph and Opal Shook and died February 22, 2023. She grew up in Porter County Indiana (around Valparaiso and Hebron). She graduated from Morgan Township High School in 1947, and attended Taylor University in Indiana where she met her future husband, Andrew K. (Andy) Kulaga. Marilyn did not finish college, but went to work to help save money for marriage. She and “Andy” were married in 1950. After her husband finished college, he attended Ohio State University Dental School, graduating in 1955. He then entered the Army Dental Corp and was stationed in Germany where she accompanied him and where their first child (Andrew David Kulaga) was born. After 4 years in the US Army, they moved to Texas where her husband set up a dental practice, and later an orthodontics practice, and where their remaining children were born (Robert Mark Kulaga and Thomas Paul Kulaga).
Marilyn and her husband raised their family in the Fort Worth and North Richland Hills area. They were long time members of North Richland Hills Baptist Church. As the years went on, they welcomed several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Son Thomas Paul (Tommy) died in 1997, and husband Andrew K. died in 2020, after 70 years of marriage. After her husband’s death in 2020, she relocated to Prestige Estates Assisted Living in Tyler Texas to be near Andrew and Sue because of health needs related to Parkinsons Disease. She is survived by sons Andrew (Sue) and Robert (Mouri), 5 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren and is remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma. Public visitation is 1:30-2:30 PM Tuesday February 28, 2023 at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home in Colleyville, TX followed by a graveside service.
