MARCIA KIRSTEIN FITZMAURICE, 81, of Coconut Creek, FL, died October 31, 2021. Marcia grew up in Suffern, NY the daughter of Paul and Marie Kirstein, and graduated from Suffern High School in 1958. Marcia received her BA from The University of Mary Washington in 1962, then known as the women’s college of the University of Virginia, after spending her junior year at the University of Madrid in Spain at a time when such an experience was rare for young women.
Marcia worked in marketing and advertising in New York City from 1962 through 1966, when she met a young Marine Corps aviator named Edward J. Fitzmaurice, Jr. on a trip to Puerto Rico. After Ed’s return from 13 months in Vietnam, they were married in Dallas, TX on December 3, 1966, where Ed was hired as a commercial airline pilot by Braniff Airways, Inc. Daughter Carey Elizabeth Fitzmaurice was born on June 6, 1968 and son Evan Edward Fitzmaurice was born on May 18, 1971, all while Marcia covered the home as Ed attended SMU Law School full time while also working full time.
Marcia worked full time herself from 1975 to 1999 in Dallas in positions of increasing responsibility at Northwestern National Life and Murray Savings, culminating in a rewarding career as Vice President and Facilities Manager at Guaranty Federal Savings, which she then followed with almost ten years of service to the Rabbis of Congregation Shearith Israel and Congregation Temple Emanu-El. In 2002, Marcia and Ed moved to Washington, D.C., where Ed was appointed as a Member of the National Mediation Board in the George W. Bush Administration, and Marcia volunteered at the White House for six years in the Office of Presidential Correspondence.
Marcia was a smart and avid reader of great books and enjoyed her children and grandchildren, world travel, fine music and great food from all cultures.
Marcia is survived by her husband of almost 55 years, Ed of Coconut Creek, FL, son Evan and his wife Ashley of Austin, TX, brother Philip L. Kirstein and wife Mindy of Princeton, NJ, son-in-law Andrew Schulman of Harpers Ferry, MD and grandchildren Elijah Schulman of Chapel Hill, NC, Samuel Schulman of Tulsa, OK and Charlotte Fitzmaurice of Austin, TX. Marcia was predeceased by daughter Carey in 2015. A memorial service will be held on a date to be announced in Dallas, TX.
A committal service for Marcia will be held Friday, November 19, 2021 at 11:00 AM at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Pkwy, Dallas, TX 75211, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 AM. Both services will be livestreamed - please use the links below to join.
