On February 25, 2021, the world lost a wonderful, kind, generous, honest, funny, and yes, sometimes sassy, soul when sweet Helen Sturonas Voss passed away from COVID-19. Helen was a wife, mother, granny, aunt, and friend. Her infectious energy touched everyone who met her, and there is rarely a story about her that doesn’t involve fun and laughter.
Helen Voss was born on June 14, 1945. She grew up near Chicago, IL and later moved to be near family in Las Vegas, Nevada where she met, fell in love with, and married a handsome Marine named Dan Asbille whom she was married to until his death in 1974. She had two children with Dan, Bob (wife Alex Asbille) and Becky (husband Michael Morgan).
After Dan’s passing, Helen raised her children on her own until one of her son’s football coaches, John Voss, came into her life. Helen and Johnny married in 1977 and were married for 35 years. Everyone who knew Helen and Johnny felt the love that they shared with each other and with anyone else who needed it. When Johnny passed away in 2013, Helen continued to devote her time and energy to helping her community and to being a positive force in the lives of her family and friends.
If Helen Voss had one guiding principle it was to put others before herself. In the community that she called home, Euless, TX, Helen was a member of the Euless Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association, the Euless Citizens Fire Academy Alumni Association, the Euless Library Foundation, and the Euless Historical Society. As a member of the Euless Historical Society, Helen worked on the committee that launched the Euless Historical Museum and was proud to be a part of sharing the legacy of the town she called home for 50 years.
She is survived by her two children, and by one step daughter, four grandchildren, three step grandchildren, six siblings, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends. In Helen’s family, everyone has a story of her kindness and wonderfully honest advice. Her friends and family are quick to point out how much fun she was to be with in the good times and how amazing and strong she was through the bad times. Helen Voss always had room in her home, food for anyone who was hungry, open arms for those who were hurting, a joke when times were tense, a radiant smile for anyone who seemed sad, the perfect gift for every occasion, and a ready willingness to do one more crazy thing. She was one of a kind and beautiful in every way, and she will be missed.
Due to safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Helen will be remembered at a small private service on March 8 that will be held at JE Foust Funeral Home in Grapevine, TX. For those who wish to view the service remotely, the livestream will begin at 12:30pm. To view, please go to: https://youtu.be/rSLISMeOM-k. She will be buried at Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park in Colleyville, TX. Safety permitting, the family plans to hold a celebration of life for Helen this summer at Texas Star so that family and friends can come together to share memories, tears, and laughter.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Euless Citizens Police Academy or the Euless Citizens Fire Academy.
