Helen Cannon Roper passed away on November 8, 2018 after a brief illness. Helen was born December 25, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA to William and Agnes Cannon. She always enjoyed telling people she was a Christmas baby. Helen met her husband of 66 years, Bob, while she was working for the Navy and Bob was stationed in Philadelphia during the Korean War. They married in 1952 and had seven children, nineteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Helen will be remembered for her love of family and her amazing kindness to everyone she met. She worked for the Department of Health and Human Services for many years. Both before and after retirement, she was very active at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Duncanville, visiting people in hospitals and leading grief groups.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, William Cannon, as well as a son, Mark Roper. She is survived by her husband, Bob, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family and dear friends.
A funeral mass will be held at Church of the Incarnation on the University of Dallas campus on December 29, 2018 at 2pm. A short reception will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament (www.katharinedrexel.org), the National Brain Tumor Society (www.braintumor.org) or a favorite charity of your choice.
