He was born in Fort Worth, Texas and graduated from Fort Worth Technical High School.
He showed promise in leadership early in his career and spent many years as a manager for Safe Way and Tom Thumb grocery stores. He enjoyed working with his employees and working hard for his customers.
He is survived by four children: Terri (Lin) Davis of Granbury, Texas, Sherri Moody of Haltom City, Texas, Richard (Misty) Smith of Midland, Texas, and Randy Smith of Fort Worth, Texas. He also is survived by 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
He also is survived by his sister, Martha Tinney of Haltom City, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Smith, to whom he was married for 54 years.
He was a faithful member of The Hills Church in North Richland Hills, Texas, for more than 46 years, where he was a member of the SonRise Bible Class and a leader in the Assembly Management Ministry.
The family expresses its deepest gratitude to all those that helped in his care and for those that have prayed for him for their kindness and compassion during his final days.
A graveside service for Fred will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 9 a.m. at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX. 76034
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made in Fred’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
