Don Thompson, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023. Don was a loving and devoted brother, husband, and father who cherished and enjoyed sharing a good meal with them. Don was born May 2, 1947 in El Reno, Oklahoma to parents Don and Jerry Thompson. Soon after, he became a big brother to Bill and Randy Thompson.
After graduating high school, Don enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and became a radar installation technician and helped set up radar stations on the islands off the coast of Vietnam during the Vietnam War. While in the Air Force, he was introduced to a young woman whom he would later marry, named Dora Gage. Together for 47 years, Don and Dora raised two children, Michael and Jennifer. After serving his country in the Air Force, Don was discharged to civilian life where he found a job with NCR as a field service technician. He worked his way up to a management position, and eventually became an educator with NCR teaching other field techs not only how to fix the machines, but how to provide good customer service.
He loved to teach just as much as he loved to tell stories. Don officially retired in 2002 and enjoyed his retirement by spending time with his family, baking with his grandchildren, and building Lego kits. Don is survived by his son Michael Thompson and wife Julie; his daughter Jen Layer, and Adam; seven grandchildren; his brothers Bill and Randy; numerous cousins, nephews, and nieces, along with many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, and his wife.
