Dana Louise (Jenkins) Word passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2022. Dana was born on August 7th, 1948, the second child of Roy and Shirley Jenkins. Born in Fort Worth, TX, Dana attended Smithfield Elementary, Richland Junior High, and graduated from Richland High School in 1966. Dana met her high school sweetheart, Randy, in 1965 and they married on August 11th, 1967. During the first few years of marriage, Dana worked while Randy attended college. Soon after, Dana and Randy began their own photography business and spent several years traveling around Texas and adjacent states growing that business. In 1978 Dana and Randy welcomed their first son, Christopher Randall, into the world and it was at that time that Dana stopped working and stayed at home full-time while Randy began his career in the high-tech industry. Three years later, in 1981, Dana gave birth to their daughter, Kelly Nicole, and the family was complete. It was at this time that the Words moved back to North Richland Hills, where both Dana and Randy had grown up and would remain there for the next 40 years.
Dana’s most intense passions were her faith and her family. With a smile and laugh that lit up a room, Dana’s love of life and her genuine kindness were felt by all that had the joy of knowing her. When she wasn’t taking care of the family or keeping up the immaculate condition of her home, Dana thrived when she was hosting family events and cooking, with Thanksgiving and Christmas being the highlights of her year. In the moments that she wasn’t tending to and taking care of others, Dana enjoyed needlepoint and taking long walks. She found great joy in spending time reading her Bible and listening to her favorite gospel hymns. Dana attended several churches including; NRH Baptist, Northwood & Gateway.
In her parents’ later years, Dana moved them into her home and cared for both of them until their passing. With that same maternal instinct that she tirelessly exhibited for her own children, she cared for her own parents and would eventually get to do the same for her four grandchildren, which were the light of her life.
Dana’s faith and love of her Lord showed through in all that she did. She had a servant’s heart and a fighter’s spirit. As her health declined she continued to lean on that faith and the love of her family kept her going. She was prepared to be with the Lord and peacefully left us to be with Him early Thursday morning.
Dana is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Shirley Jenkins. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Randy, son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Brandy, their children, Jackson and Ella, daughter and son-in-law, Kelly and David Williams, their children Heidi and Daniel, brothers and their wives, Mark and Terri Jenkins and Bill and Pat Jenkins, nephew and wife, Matthew and Kristi Jenkins, nephew, Michael, and great-nieces, Kennedy and Grace.
A funeral service for Dana will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at 10 AM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, located at 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, Texas 76034. Burial will follow immediately in the Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Park.
