Colonel Henry L Land, Jr USMC (retired), of Flower Mound, Texas passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on March 5, 2024 at the age of 93.
Lonnie was born in Houston, Texas November 22, 1930. After moving to Dallas as a boy, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the ROTC and then on to SMU to graduate with a BA in 1952 as a Commissioned officer in the NROTC. He also went on to earn a Masters of Liberal Arts in 1972, and then went on to receive an advanced managerial education at Harvard and USC.
Serving active and reserve duty in the USMC he served his country faithfully and honorably for over 30 years.
While working an illustrious career as Director of HR with Sun Oil Company in Dallas for 35 years, where he also held positions as Region VP for Radnor Corporation, and co-founded Lockland Group of Companies.
Lonnie volunteered his time with numerous groups over the years: Board Chairman for the First United Methodist Church of Dallas: VP Human Resources Executive Committee of the Greater Dallas Community of Churches: Dean’s Round Table at Perkins School of Theology: and, Advisory Board for Edwin L Cox School of Business.
Lonnie is survived by his wife of fifty years, Becky. His daughter Shannon Gillespy and son-in-law Chris Gillespy. He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Jack Damminga, Nicole Hubbard (husband Dusty), Christopher Williams (wife Jill), Brandon Gillespy (wife Jamie) and six great grandchildren Caleb, Kaileigh, Ryleigh, Reese, Brooke, and Jack. Lonnie is preceded in death by his daughter, Shirley Land.
A memorial service for Colonel Land will be held Friday, March 15, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Bluebonnet Hills Funeral Home, 5725 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX 76034, followed by a reception from 12:15 PM to 2:15 PM.
