Fort Worth, Texas — Betty Catherine Feagin Thomas passed away peacefully on February 1, 2021 at the age of 91 at her residential care home in Fort Worth. Betty was born on October 24, 1929 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Inez and William H. Feagin. She was predeceased by her sister, Joan Garrett of Gilbert, SC and her infant daughter, Teresa Lynn Brown.
Betty retired after a 25-year career with the U.S. Government in Washington, D.C. She served the government at Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland as the Purchasing Agent for the Presidential Fleet of Air Force One, known as “The Spirit of 76”. She was transferred to Washington, D.C. where she served as a Senior Contracting Officer for the U.S. Department of Labor, US Department of Justice, and the Department of Immigration and Naturalization. She retired as a GS-13.
After her retirement in 1989, she relocated to the Dallas, TX area to be near her three children and grandchildren. She was an active and faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Richland Hills, Texas where she enjoyed a large and loving church family. During her time there she volunteered on many committees that served the community and the church.
Betty is survived by her children, Margi (David) Mountcastle of Bedford, Texas, Richard (Debbie) Brown of Bluffton, South Carolina and D. “Mike” (Deeda) Brown of Arlington, Texas. She was a devoted grandmother and is survived by Ben Cornish of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeff Cornish of Tallahassee, Florida, Michael (Lindsay) Brown of Burleson, Texas, Becky Brown of Cleveland, Ohio and Carey (Ben) Benander of St. Brelade, Jersey, United Kingdom. Also surviving her are her great-grandchildren, Travis and Caitlin Cornish, Zachary Cornish, Morgan and Noah Benander, and David, Brooklyn, and Alyssa Brown arriving soon. She is also survived by niece, Cindy Price and nephew, Tim Garrett of Gilbert, South Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who wish may send memorials to the March of Dimes (www.marchofdimes.org) which focuses on research and programs to help prevent premature births, birth defects and infant mortality. Betty lost her daughter Teresa Lynn at the age of three months after a premature birth and serious heart defect, so this foundation was very dear to her. Donations may also be made in her honor to Calvary Lutheran Church, 7620 Baker Blvd., Richland Hills, TX 76118.
The memorial service is closed to the public due to COVID-19 precautions but will be live-streamed on Calvary's YouTube channel. There will be a link and a bulletin available on Calvary's website a few days before the service: https://godshearthumanhands.org/. If you are not able to view at the time of the service, it will be available to view at any point on Calvary's YouTube channel.”
