Lequeta Leslie

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 25 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bryan with Reverends’ Mike Singentreu and Wade Coleman officiating. Private family burial will be held at Belmont Cemetery in Belmont. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station.

Born in Lubbock County and raised on a farm, Lequeta graduated from High School in 3 years, one year as Levelland Lobo Queen. Awarded a loan from the Levelland Rotary Club, she went on to become a cosmetologist graduating from Isobell’s Beauty School, earning a Certificate of Merit by the Style League of Hair Design, and continuing her training in New York City. She married George Vernon Leslie and worked to help put him through college at the University of Texas in Austin. She worked for a short time for the U.S. Treasury Department at the IRS. Lequeta was an excellent cook and hostess and enjoyed entertaining friends and family, especially hosting the birthday club once a month for her girlfriends, and frequent spirited gatherings with dear friends Jerry and Luanne.

She often opened her home on holidays to military personnel stationed in San Antonio. Lequeta was a loving mother to her three children Billy Wayne, Linda Gayle, and Deborah Lynn. She was involved in her children’s school activities serving on the PTA board and Girl Scouts Club of America, and volunteering in FFA, FHA, and the 4-H Club. Her least favorite mom duty was the cotton candy machine at football games. Lequeta enjoyed many deep sea fishing trips with her husband. She was an avid deer hunter and spent many opening days of the season with her beloved son Billy Wayne. Lequeta enjoyed the arts and participated in events at the San Antonio Petroleum Club, San Antonio Art League, San Antonio Women’s Auxiliary, and the Hollywood Park Women’s Club, etc. Lequeta was an artist herself and often gave her paintings to family and friends.

Lequeta is preceded in death by her husband, George Vernon Leslie; brother, Billy Ray Martin; and son, Billy Wayne Leslie at the young age of 16.

She is survived by her daughter Linda and Mark Ainsworth of Gonzales, Debbie and Peter Keating of College Station, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Heartfelt thanks to Layne & Jeanne B., Janice A., Dwight and Aimee A., Steve and Kay P., Rick, Ladonna, Travis & Taylor, the entire Bagnall family, Tommy and friends from her bible study group in San Antonio, Bonnie G., her dear bible study friends from Westminster Presbyterian Church who gave her a tea party complete with lace, china and her favorite homemade pie, and countless others too numerous to mention. Lequeta cherished each of you for your selfless, loving, and faithful friendships. The family would also like to thank each and every friend of Lequeta’s who called, visited, fed them and prayed for them.
