Ella Louetta Beasley, a former resident of College Station, died Monday, February 20, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the age of 104. She was born June 9, 1907 in Bellview, to the late Thomas C. and Belle Zora Shaw Burnam. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace D. Beasley, three brothers and four sisters. Ella and her family attended A&M Church of Christ while living in College Station. After the death of her husband she moved to Oklahoma City to be near her daughter and was a member of the Quail Springs Church of Christ.
Ella had a heart for people, and for God. As one of her granddaughters recently said “She had so many friends that thought so much of her, she seemed to love everyone and everyone loved her and she surrounded herself with Christians” She had an infectious laugh. In her later years she loved to bowl and play cards with her grandchildren and friends. Ella’s faith was strong and long after her mind failed to let her know where she was, she knew and talked about where she was going.
Ella was a teacher. Her first job at the age of eighteen was in a one room schoolhouse out in the country near Iowa Park where she grew up. She married her high school sweetheart. They lived through the lean years of the depression, and valued the important things in life like love and family. Through out her life she continued to teach by the way she lived.
She was devoted to her family. Daughter Barbara and son Roland have many memories of her selfless love and care toward them. Later, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come to love their “Nonnie” in much the same way. She cooked, she sewed, she cheered and supported all of them for as long as she could.
She is survived by her son Wallace Roland Beasley and his wife Jean of Austin as well as her daughter Barbara Belle McGinn and her husband Fred of Edmond, OK. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren are: Shelley Herriman of Tomball; Julie McElroy of North Richland Hill; Lori Pierce of Frisco; Becky Orick of Austin; Fred McGinn of Edmond, OK; Angela Piercey of Oklahoma City, OK and Justin McGinn of Edmond, OK. Her great-grandchildren are Stephanie, Katie, and David Herriman; Hunter and Molly McElroy; Chelsea, Bethany and Hayden Pierce; Rachel, Jacob, Samuel and Sarah Orick; Danny, Joe, Mark and Will McGinn; and Xalen and Kaya McGinn. She has one great-great-grandson, Carter.
Visitation will take place at Memorial Funeral Chapel in College Station, Saturday, February 25, from 6:30 until 8:00 P.M. Funeral service will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel on Sunday, February 26, at 3:00 P.M. with interment following at the College Station Cemetery.
